a) Napoleon dissovled the Holy Roman empire

c) Some German people loved the fact that French rulers were on their land and other Germans don't like their French rulers.

2. Economic Changes Promtote Unity
a) Zollerwein dismantles the taxes on imported goods between German states.
b) Dismantled tariff barriers between many German states.
c) In 1848 liberal meetings demanded German political unity.
d) The Prussian ruler rejected the notion on the throne offered by the people.


Topic 2. Bismarck Unites Germany
1. Master of Realpolitik
a) Bismarck was a prussian Minsiter,
b) He believed that power was more important than princlples.
c) He hoped to bring the Hohenzollerns more power that they deserved.
d) He wasnt a German Nationalist, he supported Prussia.

2. Strenghting the Army.
1.) He started to put togrther a Prussian Army.
2.) The Liberal Legislature refuse to vote for funds of the miltary.
3.) Bismarck strengthed the army with money collected for other purporses.
4.) In the next ten years Bismarck led the Prussian into 3 different wars.

3. Prussia Declares War with Denmark and Austria
a) In 1866 Bismark invented an excuse to attack Austria.
b) The Prussia war lasted 7 weeks - Prussia won
c) Bismark created a new confederation dominated by Prussia.
d) Bismark allowed Austria to be independent so they wouldn't want revenge.

1. Making Economic Progress

c) They had a huge home market along with a large supply of industrial workers.
d) Germans have founded large companies and built many railroads.

2. Promoting Scientic and Economic Development
a) The new products Germans made were synthetic chemicals and dyes.
b) Reconized Banking System, created a single currency for Germany and coordinated railroads.

Topic 4. The Iron Challenger
1. Campain against the Church
a) In 1871-1878 Bismarck launched the 'battle of cilvilization' when they saw the Catholic threat.
b) The law was pased that gave that state the right to supervise Catholic education and im prove the appointment of priests.
c) Some laws were made that affected religion, expullsion from Jesuits to Prussia and even some peoples marriage.
d) Bismarck's plan failed and a realist realized his mistake but decided to make peace with the Church.

2. Campain against the Socialists
a) In the growing power of Socialism, Bismarck saw another threat to the German empire.
b) Bismarck passed laws that banned meetings, dissolved the social groups and shut down the Social Democratc Parites newspapers.
c) Bismarck sponsered laws to protect the workers.
d) Bismarcks programs improved the conditions for workers.
